DDI announces the appointment of Dr. Hany Besada as Program and Deputy Executive Director

DDI is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Hany Besada as Program and Deputy Executive Director.

Hany Besada has held positions with the African Mineral Development Centre at the UN Economic Commission for Africa, with the North-South Institute in Ottawa, the UN High Level Panel Secretariat-Post 2015 Development Agenda at UNDP in New York, and at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo, Canada. Before moving to Canada, he was a Principal Researcher at the South African Institute of International Affairs and he worked as Policy Advisor for the South African Ministry of Local and Provisional Government. He has also worked as a consultant for several NGOs, UN agencies and governments.

The author of many articles and policy papers, he is also the author editor/co-editor of Governing Natural Resources for Africa’s Development (Routledge, 2016), Development in Africa: Refocusing the Lens after the Millennium Development Goals (Policy Press, 2015) and several other books. His professional interests cover an array of themes ranging from natural resource governance to Africa’s socio-economic and security development, and post-conflict economic reconstruction. He holds a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Warwick.
